GhostKeys on Windows

Play CrateGhost or another MIDI instrument from your Android phone using Bluetooth, MIDIberry and loopMIDI.

GhostKeys sends MIDI. The sound comes from your computer.

Start the setup ↓

  1. Install the Windows tools

Install loopMIDI and MIDIberry from the Microsoft Store.

Open loopMIDI, enter GhostKeys as the new port name, then click +. Leave loopMIDI running.

  2. Connect your phone

Enable Bluetooth on your phone and PC. Open GhostKeys, tap START, allow Nearby devices if requested, and wait for Advertising. Tap START again after granting permission if needed.

On Windows, open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Add device → Bluetooth and select your phone’s Bluetooth name.

  3. Route MIDIberry

Open MIDIberry and select these devices:

    INPUTYour phone’s Bluetooth MIDI device
    OUTPUTThe GhostKeys loopMIDI port

Keep MIDIberry open. Wait for Ready · MIDI connected on the phone; clearing old notes can take a little time. Tap a pad and check that messages appear in MIDIberry’s input monitor.

  4. Enable MIDI in CrateGhost

In CrateGhost standalone, open Options → Audio/MIDI Settings. Enable GhostKeys under Active MIDI inputs and choose your speakers or audio interface.

Load some chops and play. GhostKeys Bank A’s default notes 36–51 match CrateGhost’s default 16 pads.

For another instrument or DAW, enable the same GhostKeys MIDI input and route it to the instrument you want to play.

If it does not connect

Keep GhostKeys visible and the phone unlocked. Locking, rotating or switching away from the app stops its session. Return to GhostKeys, tap START and reconnect.

Phone missing in MIDIberry? On Windows 11, try setting Bluetooth device discovery to Advanced, then search again. The phone must appear as a Bluetooth MIDI input. The virtual GhostKeys port belongs in MIDIberry’s OUTPUT list.

Paired, but still advertising? Bluetooth pairing and a working MIDI subscription are separate steps. If the phone never appears as a Bluetooth MIDI input, this route cannot receive its notes. Some Windows configurations require an alternative BLE MIDI bridge.

Notes arrive, but no sound? Click a pad directly in CrateGhost. Check that chops are loaded, the audio output is selected and the volume is up. Keep both MIDIberry and loopMIDI running.
