GHOSTKEYS FOR ANDROID, IPHONE & IPAD

GhostKeys support

GhostKeys turns your Android phone, iPhone or iPad into a Bluetooth MIDI pad and piano controller. The receiving instrument on your computer makes the sound. GhostKeys does not include an on-device sound engine.

Android + Windows

To play CrateGhost standalone from your Android phone on Windows, follow the GhostKeys on Windows setup guide. It walks through Bluetooth, MIDIberry, loopMIDI and CrateGhost MIDI settings.

What you need on Mac

An Android 12+ phone with BLE advertising support, or an iPhone/iPad running iOS/iPadOS 17+, Bluetooth enabled on both devices, and a Mac that supports Bluetooth MIDI with a MIDI-capable instrument or music app. FL Studio can receive generic MIDI notes; follow the instrument's note mapping. Host setup and Bluetooth behavior vary by device and software version.

Connect and play on Mac

  1. Open GhostKeys, tap START on Android or Connect on iPhone/iPad and allow Nearby devices or Bluetooth access. Keep the app open while playing.
  2. On your Mac, open Audio MIDI Setup → Window → Show MIDI Studio → Configure Bluetooth. Find your phone by its Bluetooth device name and connect.
  3. Wait until GhostKeys says Connected · MIDI ready. Advertising by itself is not a completed connection.
  4. Enable GhostKeys as a MIDI input in your music app and select a receiving instrument. In FL Studio, use a generic controller input in MIDI settings.
  5. Choose Pads or Piano. The Mac's audio device and instrument control the sound you hear.

Controller settings

Pads provide a 4 × 4 multitouch grid and banks A–H. Setup lets you edit labels, MIDI notes and channels, choose momentary or toggle behavior, adjust fixed velocity, and save or recall up to 16 named local setups. Piano supports one or two visible octaves, octave shifts and glissando. Sustain and Panic are available on the playing screen. A MIDI channel does not universally select an FL Studio Channel Rack instrument.

No sound?

Confirm that GhostKeys says MIDI ready, the host input is enabled, the instrument is selected, and its MIDI channel and note range match your settings. Confirm that the Mac can produce audio independently. Pad illumination reflects local touch activity, not proof that the Mac received or played a note.

Stuck notes or a dropped connection

While connected, tap Panic to release tracked notes and sustain and send channel cleanup. If Bluetooth disconnects, stop any stuck sound in the host or instrument immediately: a disconnected phone cannot send cleanup to it. Reconnect before playing again. Old held notes are not replayed automatically.

Switching mode, bank, channel, octave or settings releases active notes. Moving the app to the background or locking the phone attempts note cleanup and stops the session. Tap START on Android or Connect on iPhone/iPad when you return. Nearby devices or Bluetooth permission can be changed in your device settings.
